FISHING

Overview

For decades, Loreto has been a mecca for deep sea fishing enthusiasts from the Southwest. It was popularized in the 60's and 70's by serious fisherman escaping from Southern California in private planes to fish for long weekends. Namely, a man by the name of Edward Ware Tabor, who founded the Flying Sportsmans Lodge, which was a fishing lodge in Loreto that was famous for flying avid fisherman down to Loreto from Southern California for fishing adventures.

The Sea of Cortez is arguably one of the best fishing destinations in the world. You’ll need a fishing license to fish here, so purchase one online at the Baja California Sur Sport Fishing website here. Each year, The Sea of Cortez is blessed with more than 875 species of fish. From tuna, yellow tail, dorado, black marlin, blue marlin, sail fish and more—you can explore a large, stable number of game fish.
