Without canal maintenance for many years, the severe run-off from the Sierra de la Giganta during hurricanes and monsoon storms carried rock, sand and silt into the canals. This debris made it impossible for yachts to travel to the private docks at each of the Waicuri home sites.
Dredging has now returned the canals to their original 14ft foot depth. Fonatur has also restored and reinforced the watershed diversion west of the transpeninsular highway. The watershed diversion protects Marina Puerto Escondido and Tripui by redirecting run-off to enter the sea south of the bay.
We are committed to maintaining the entrance channel and canals so that we can sustain our marina and residential community. To realize this commitment, we’re dredging the marina entrance channel to a depth that will accommodate boats of virtually all sizes.
We will remain compliant with the Semarnat contract, requiring that we maintain our marina entrance channel and residential canals at least every three years.
The result? Yachts can enter and navigate in the marina and residential canals without concern.
